WILLIAM FERNIE

William Fernie is an aeronautical engineer, former flying instructor, and author of the Tom Munro series of historical fiction novels.

After a brief stint in the merchant navy, Bill studied aeronautical engineering at university and served for sixteen years in the Royal Air Force, ending his service in the fascinating world of military intelligence.

Throughout his working life, Bill satisfied his aviation and maritime interests by flying classic aircraft and sailing. His most recent aeroplanes were the Scottish Aviation Bulldog and the de Havilland Chipmunk (shown above), which he enjoyed flying until recently. Sadly, it was time to hang up the “headsets,” and now Bill concentrates on sailing his Southerly 110, CENTAYNE III, and, of course, his writing.

Bill is married, with two grown-up daughters and four grandchildren, and lives in West Hampshire in a wonderful old farmhouse with his wife, Lizzie. The fourth book in the Tom Munro series, The Lipetsk Conspiracy, is about to be published, and ideas for the next chapter in Tom Munro’s turbulent life are already taking shape!
